O'AHU (Sand Island)

Hawaii Adaptive Paddling Association provides a monthly recreational program at Sand Island Recreation Area on the Island of O'ahu. The sheltered oceanfront serves as an ideal venue for the monthly gatherings. With calm ocean conditions, plentiful parking, and easy access to the water, it provides a safe environment for our paddlers in a centrally located location on O'ahu. Participants enjoy a day at the beach and can participate in paddling, swimming, or playing in the sand with beach toys. Free lunch is provided.

Canoes, paddles, safety equipment & life vests, boogie boards and beach toys are provided. Free parking. For the safety of all participants, paddlers will be asked to sign a 2019 waiver (download waiver).

ISLAND OF HAWAII (BIG ISLAND) (KAILUA-KONA SIDE)

Kalamaku is an independently run program trained by the experienced volunteers of Hawaii Adaptive Paddling Association. Kalamaku meets the fourth Sunday of every month from 10:00am-2:00pm. Located in a sheltered cove in the middle of Kona town next to the King Kamehameha Hotel, it provides an easy location to launch canoes. Kona's calm seas and deep blue ocean make it a beautiful l ocation for adaptive paddling. Participants enjoy a day at the beach and can participate in paddling, swimming, or playing in the sand with beach toys. Free lunch is provided.

ISLAND OF MAUI (SPONSORED BY KIHEI CANOE CLUB

Kihei Canoe Club actively supports an adaptive program in North Kihei. Look for the red and gold canoes on the beach at the intersection of Uwapo and S. Kihei Road. Parking is available along the beach (makai) side of S. Kihei Road.

We are pleased to provide links to other programs that offer adaptive programs in Hawai'i.

Pure Light Racing organizes outrigger canoe paddling for physically challenged individuals. The program is geared towards competitive adaptive paddling and suited for individuals who can independently access the canoe and swim unaided.

AccesSurfis a program that empowers people with disabilities by providing adaptive surfing instruction and therapeutic education programs on water recreation. Their program runs the first Saturday of the month at White Plains beach. Visit their website for more information.

Manawale'a Riding Center provides therapeutic horsemanship for children of all ages regardless of mental or physical challenges and is able to accommodate large or small groups. Visit their website for more information.
